Basanok, 1920 - 1992

Yury Basanok was a highly decorated veteran of the Great Patriotic War. At the conclusion of the War, he entered the Kiev Art Academy, from which he graduated in 1953. Upon graduation, Basanok joined the staff of the Academy and remained a member of the faculty until his retirement.

Basanok was a respected member of the Soviet Artists' Union. While the subjects of his paintings were frequently laborers, peasants and children, he was most noted for his theater paintings. He participated in Ministry of Culture-sponsored exhibitions in Moscow, Kiev, Leningrad, London, Rome and Paris. Basanok's works may be found in the permanent collections of museums in Kiev, Moscow, Leningrad, Odessa Lvov.

Yury Basanok died in 1992, at the age of 72.
