SUBJECT + EXPRESSIVE CONTENT = ART WORK
Select a painting from the Cyber Gallery and try to answer the following questions. Remember historical and artist biographical information is available on this web site to help in your responses.
- What is the subject of the painting?
- Does the painting represent a specific location, time and/or place?
- Does the artist have a message? If so, what is it?
- Do you believe the social environment influenced the artists choice of subject? If so, how?
- What mood do you think the artist is attempting to convey?
- How do you believe the artists is manipulating her or his materials to help convey this feeling?
- What kind of training did the artist have?
- Did this artist have exposure to other art styles and artists?
If so, do you believe there is an influence that shows in the painting?
- How well do you believe the intended feeling is communicated?
- How successful is the painting to you? Don't forget that the artistic ability of an individual is obviously very subjective. That is, each of us will view an artists' ability according to our own biases and experiences.
